When designing sports, it’s easy to get sucked into the world of generic layouts with post-game coverage. So I get really excited when a feature story is running as the centerpiece. There wasn’t much in terms of pre-planning for these covers. But if I’ve learned anything the past few months, it’s that sometimes it’s better to just go big and cross your fingers that your editors jump on board. Luckily for me, mine did.
These pages were both for The Post-Cresent of Appleton, WI.
Fall means sports season is in full swing. Though there is plenty else happening in the studio (Election Night was a definite highlight), football is dominating the majority of my life. Friday nights are high school. Saturdays are college. Sundays and Mondays are NFL. And every day in between, I’m struggling with my obvious lack of knowledge of this sport through my Fantasy Football team.
Welcome to my nightmare.

I was recently asked by my brilliantly talented friend Sarah Gormley to design a mock invitation for a Monet-inspired wedding shoot. It was a great break from designing news pages and gave me the opportunity to do some illustrating and playing around with typography. I’m quite pleased with how the invite turned out, and Sarah did an amazing job bringing the whole concept to life.
